Based on the 1965 cult sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert the storyline chronicles the life of Paul, who was born into great destiny in the most treacherous planet in the universe.
This is actually the second adaptation of the book for the big screen, after David Lynch’s attempt in 1984 that didn’t attract the cult following that the book received.
Director, Denis Villeneuve, undoubtedly is on a quest to wow the audiences. Dune really represents science-fiction at its best, and it’s so great to see that the big screen adaptation stayed accurate to the source material.
Right off the bat the movie has a brazen statement at the beginning credits proclaiming that this is: Dune, Part I, hence that this going to be a franchise. One can only guess that Warner Bros, who put $165 million dollars into the production wants to make sure they will get a return on their investment by promising future movies. Sequels or not, Villeneuve has created a futuristic world that is striking and makes you curious to learn more about.
Even though the movie is over two-and-a-half hours long, somehow you don’t really feel how fast time flies.
And the real icing on the cake is the soundtrack by Academy Awards’ winner, Hans Zimmer.
This is a very easy THUMBS UP!
