    Ron Jacobsohn Reviews Despicable Me 3

    Despicable Me 3 is one sequel this summer which will not let you down. It is colorful, imaginative sometimes silly but eventually just plain enjoyable. However, the Minions, who still steal every scene they are in, have kind of lost their way in the storyline to the point that even in the movie they declare a strike until a new devious plot for them will be created.

    Eight years after the Minions burst into our lives, they still go what it takes. Those movies are clever in subconsciously installing very important ideas about family values. In the first one Gru gave up evil. In the second he got married. Now in the third one, he rekindles his relationship with his long-lost twin, Dru (both voiced by Steve Carrell). Yet it wouldn’t be a Despicable Me movie without a juicy villain, so say hello to Balthazar (voiced by Trey Parker) who is plotting to steal the world’s largest diamond.

    In our day and age, no animated feature can live without a great soundtrack and Despicable Me 3 is no different adding at least five new Pharrell Williams tracks that surely will bring some hits to be nominated for Best Song…

    It rarely is the case with sequels, yet the third movie in the Despicable Me series might end up becoming the best one. It was action-filled and exciting and deserves my thumbs Up.

    Ron Jacobsohn Reviews The Mummy

    This third reboot of The Mummy for Universal Pictures and a lot is riding on this big money-making machine for the studios being the franchise has already earned over a billion and a half dollars.

    The star of the new The Mummy is Tom Cruise, who gets to fight an ancient Egyptian princess awoken from her tomb and now angry enough to want to take over the world, with the help of Mr. Cruise, if he wants it or not.

    This 125-million-dollars budgeted movie is so heavy on the special effects it has almost but forgotten it wants to tell a story too. For Alex Kurtzman, big-budgeted effects-filled flicks are very new as a director, so maybe it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise he got lost between all the effects and the narrative. The one thing you can’t mistake is that this is a Tom Cruise driven vehicle. If you are a Tom Cruise fan, this shouldn’t bother you too much, as you should be used to it. Rumor has it that, Cruise had final approval on everything in this flick.

    Universal is hoping to create a trilogy of this reboot, which it entitled Dark Universe, yet it will all depend on how well it will fair at the box office if the studio will keep pouring money into it. The studio needs a new blockbuster franchise but it remains to be seen if the rebooted The Mummy will fill that void.

    I was somewhat entertained but not enough, so I heavy-heatedly have to give it a Thumbs Down.

    Ron Jacobsohn Reviews Bridget Jones’s Baby

    Everyone I talked to about this movie immediately was asking “do we really need another Bridget Jones” fifteen years later… I say what does it matter how many years later as long as it’s a fun experience and I really had a good time watching “Bridget Jones’s Baby” and there is a very good reason why… Sharon Maguire who directed the first film, but not the second one is back at the helm but more importantly the trio behind the script is original author Helen Fielding, Borat scriber Dan Mazer and Oscar winner Emma Thompson, who naturally wrote herself some of the funniest lines in the movie.
    The premise has Bridget getting pregnant and confused over who did it. Leave it to Bridgit to make this tragic misfortune into a laugh out loud comedy with plenty of OMG moments.
    Joining the cast or regulars is Doctor McDreamy himself, Patrick Dempsey, who is so much more fitting in the role of prince charming than the tragic Derek Sheppard of Grey’s Anatomy.
    I still can’t get used to Renee Zellwegger’s unbearable British accent but the whole circus going on around her for 123-minutes makes you forget it after a while.
    I predict this flick having a much longer shelf life on home entertainment as our big screens tend to make a lot more money these days with those 3D/Imax type of movies where things explode every few seconds.
    I know I am probably going to be in a minority here, but I am giving this one a THUMBS UP!!!

    This is the fifth Bourne Identity movie in the franchise and the first starring Matt Damon since 2007, even though he did say back then that he was done with the franchise.
    You gotta learn from 007: NEVER SAY NEVER…
    Jason Bourne can be viewed as both the most important and least important movie in the series. Important because details about Bourne’s backstory are being reviled yet for those who maybe have not seen any of the other movies it’s a mediocre action flick which leaves you kinda confused what this is all about.
    No one can deny this is a fun and entertaining movie, yet this is also the return of Matt Damon to the franchise you wanted to be awe struck.
    Bourne Identity also kills off two of the major characters of the series and replacing one with very sexy Swedish Oscar winner, Alicia Vikander. The new dynamic created in movie, as a result, makes you think maybe this franchise has just gotten a new lease on life…
    This movie gets a “Thumbs in the Middle” from me.

    Ron Jacobsohn Reviews The Secret Lives of Pets

    Today I want to talk to you about one of the funniest adult movies… made for kids… The Secret Lives of Pets tries to answer a question we all like to know the answer to: what do our do our furry friends do while we’re at not home with them…
    The answer this movie supplies is… we are better off not knowing…
    The movie gives us a real good time, while at the same time dwelling into some dark territory (at least for adults) by presenting the question if its not actually a cruel act, on our part, to keep those animals locked in our homes just for our own entertainment.
    The plot is fun and exciting while you watch the movie but totally forgettable the minute you leave the theater, which is totally fine for a family outing at a hot summer day.
    I believe The Secret Life of Pets is a hit and quote me on this: will most certainly have a sequel sometime in the future. I give it a THUMBS UP!
