Ron Jacobsohn Reviews The Idea of You

This is probably the flick Amazon Prime has spent the most money to promote for months, the question is if all that money will pay itself back for the giant retailer.
The Idea of You is an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Robinne Lee, which follows a 40-year-old art gallery director who falls head over heels for a boyband superstar whom she briefly meets at a music festival her daughter drags her to. This is probably very self-explanatory if you ever saw a romantic comedy although the actual execution falls somewhat flat.
The chemistry between Ann Hathaway and Nico Galitzine sometimes feels forced, making their relationship less believable. Especially if you compare Galitzine to his portrayal of the gay Prince Charming in Amazon Prime’s Red, White & Royal Blue and Amazon Prime’s Cinderella, you guessed it, as Prince Charming.
The screenplay attempts to explore deeper themes of age, but it often falls into clichés and predictable territory. Although the ending may have left some unsatisfied, I thought it was kind of cute.
Although The Idea of You might leave you feeling like they’ve seen it all before, I felt knowing what I got myself into, that the flick does have moments of charm and is moderately entertaining. I give it a THUMBS in the MIDDLE.
