Can you believe there still are TV shows that have not been made into movies??? “The Fall Guy” who ran on ABC in the early 80’s for five seasons and made Lee Majors a household name becomes a major motion picture by Universal Pictures with ultra sexy Ryan Gosling in the lead. In the big screen version Colt Seavers retires from stunt work only to be lured back into the business by his ex, but things go very wrong when the star of the flick goes missing.
One of the secrets of the success of this movie is undoubtedly the on-screen chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. Ironically, Gosling who portrays her as a stuntman has a fear of heights, which did not stop him from falling from 150-feet. Brave man! Overall, director, David Leitch, has made a conscientious commitment to have his actor perform practical effects over CGI, which enhances the authenticity of these scenes, making it more realistic.
Even though this is a summer eye candy flick, the storyline also tackles deeper issues like loyalty, bravery, and the fine line between heroism and recklessness.
“The Fall Guy” is a thrilling homage to the original TV show, successfully honoring its source material while forging its own unique path with an open door for a sequel (this is a studio movie after all. I had a fun time watching it and am giving it a THUMBS UP.
