Ron Jacobsohn Reviews The Sisters Brothers

Upon hearing the title of this movie, The Sisters Brothers, you really can’t start to imagine what this movie is about, however, it becomes clear once the movie begins.
Two acting giants, John C. Reilly, and Joaquin Phoenix make this seemingly simple western story into something truly compelling worthy of awards consideration. The Venice Film Festival already gave its seal of approval by awarding Audiard the Silver Lion this year.
The story is set in 1850s Oregon, as the assassins die embarks on their latest job to kill a gold prospector yet their journey this time will lead them to a very unexpected destination.
It is fascinating to watch how locations in Europe, Aragon (Spain), and Calugareni (Romania), were transformed into nineteenth-century Oregon and California, however when you find out about the movies French director, Jacques Audiard, it starts to make more sense.
As in most European movies the tempo is quite slow, however at two hours long at times The Sisters Brothers feels a bit too long.
It still gets a Thumbs Up from me.
