Would you believe 50-year-old Jennifer Lopez could be a stripper? After a very hyped trailer, Hustlers delivers big time while giving you the unexpected. It jumps from one genre to another and when you leave the theater there is some real satisfaction, quite the rare experience for moviegoers these days.
In Hustlers a group of New York City strippers gets together in order to con their to Wall Street clientele. And if you feel like this is something a bit out of the realm of norm the producers of the flick want you to know that the movie is based on an article that ran in New York Magazine back in 2015.
Statistically speaking, Lopez has been the only Latina lead (aged 45 or over) in top grossing movies since 2007, Hustlers might just be the turning point her career. She gives one of her best performances yet. Her depiction of a hardworking single mother struggling to make ends meet is stunning.
“Hustlers” humanizes the women at its center giving them a surprising level of emotional depth and shows us that there are more than one kind of story worth telling about women, money and sex. Jennifer Lopez gives a grounded and natural yet electrifying screen performance in a film about anger and sadness. A deserving Thumbs Up!
